life in balance

About

Jen 3

Hi, I’m Jen! I’m a writer and homesteader type at heart. I’m never more at home than when I’m learning to love a new place with a camera in my hand and a journal in my bag. I believe in the powerful magic of creating something with your hands and your heart fully engaged, whether that something is food, clothing, beauty or narrative truth. I live a very urban life in a lovely, walkable community just outside Washington, DC, and for years I worked in IT. After I rose to division director of a tech services firm, I realized that my career was becoming fast incompatible with my life. Together with my husband, I made the deliberate decision to scale back my work in order to live a more balanced, loving, thoughtful life together.

This blog serves as a chronicle of our attempts to slow things down and live more deliberately, with more gentleness for the world around us and for each other. I hope it will also serve as a vessel for me to connect with YOU. This blog is play for me – a way to step away from my inward-facing novelist’s brain and engage with others out there – and I love it when people comment and share their world with me. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hi Jen, I just happened to come across your blog while checking out different sites for embroidery………loved the writing and photographs! Beautiful! Rebecca’s class was so much fun. I love her approach to teaching ………….. I still sew all night long :0)………it was 3am one night when I remembered to look at the clock. That has happened more than once. Snow farm was fun. I hope things are going well for you. I love your focus on finding balance in life………..I’m always searching for that too. It’s not easy, especially in this day and age. I think that’s why I love embroidery………it slows things down for a bit. Meditative and fun………….Hope you are having a great summer! Diana :0)
